AP ART EXAM
AP EXAM: 3 SECTIONS
1. 12 Breadth Pieces
"For the Breadth section of the AP® Studio Art portfolio, students submit a variety of works that demonstrate their mastery of drawing, or their understanding of principles of two- or three-dimensional design. Many teachers view this section of the portfolio as evidence
of student understanding of processes, media and techniques. Students may choose to submit works in multiple media or only one medium for this section. In either case, works should demonstrate a range of concepts, techniques, subjects and approaches to design." (AP Central)

2. 12 Concentration Pieces
"A concentration is a body of related works that demonstrate a student’s sustained and thoughtful investigation of a specific visual idea. It is not a selection of a variety of works produced as solutions to class projects or a collection of works with differing intents. Students should be encouraged to explore a personal, central interest as intensively as possible; they are free to work with any idea in any medium that addresses drawing issues. The concentration should grow out of the student’s idea and demonstrate growth and/or discovery through a number of conceptually related works. In this section, the evaluators are interested not only in the work presented but also in visual evidence of the student’s thinking, selected method of working and development of the work over time. Students are encouraged to include images that document their processes of thinking and creating." (AP Central)

Answer the following two questions based on your concentration:
1. What is the central idea of your concentration?
2. How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples.
3. Quality Section
"Quality refers to the understanding of drawing issues that should be apparent in the concept, composition, and execution of the works, whether they are simple or complex. For this section, students are asked to submit five actual works in one or more media. Students should carefully select the works that demonstrate their understanding of drawing issues."(AP Central)
